Move on organised crime

Argentina

A new anti-money laundering law has been introduced after the US urged its implementation.

Eduardo Amadeo, Secretary of the Fight Against Drugs, said: “Being able to control the money managed not just by drug traffickers but by organised crime is a way of controlling their activities. If they cannot deposit their ill-earned cash, it will stop them from entering a country.”

US authorities claim South American cocaine producers are using Argentina as a transit country.

The new law includes jail terms of up to 10 years for those guilty of covering up money laundering.
